Students celebrate excellent teaching

Students and staff gathered to praise excellent teaching and partnership at the annual Middlesex University Student Union’s (MDXSU) Student-Led Teaching Awards on 4 April.

The awards were established in 2014 to recognise and reward the incredible staff at Middlesex and are entirely student-led, with students placing all 950 nominations and sitting on the shortlisting panels alongside elected student officers and staff.

"We are truly lucky to be at a university where staff and students work so effectively alongside each other to make our community one to remember,” - Katie Dragomirova, MDXSU Vice-President of Business and Law.

Made in Middlesex

Middlesex University has launched a distinctive new campaign, Made in Middlesex, showcasing high-achieving students, staff and alumni such as former fine art student Joe Joyce who won a silver medal in boxing at Rio 2016.

“Middlesex has a rich history of innovation and transforming students’ lives. Today, we are driving social mobility, with our graduates adding value for employers in London and around the world–whether in industry or the public services–and often launching their own businesses. … I hope the inspiring stories featured in the Made in Middlesex campaign encourage others to follow in their footsteps.” - Professor Tim Blackman, Vice-Chancellor of Middlesex University

BBC pollution series features living wall

The Ritterman Building’s Living Wall has featured in a new BBC series about pollution called ‘So I Can Breathe’.

In the segment shown on BBC London this week, Senior Lecturer in Bioscience and Biomedical Science Dr Dirk Wildeboer talked to journalist Anna O’Neill about his research exploring the potential environmental benefits of living green walls in urban spaces.

Middlesex is committed to continual environmental improvement and in recent weeks the Students’ Union has begun working with the London Wildlife Trust to plant wildflowers and hedgerows and build log piles in order to encourage more birds and insects to make a home on campus.
