Business school MOOCs enable students worldwide to start social enterprises

The Business School's exciting partnership with FutureLearn, the popular UK-based social learning platform, has attracted over 20,000 subscribers in its first six months. The School's three online social enterprise courses teach learners how to design, deliver and sustain their own long-term social enterprises.

The three courses are on Business Doing Good, Turning Ideas into Action and Growing a Sustainable Business. More than 40 contributors - including existing social enterprises and experts in the field - have participated in creating the course content.

Entrepreneurial win for MDX student

Middlesex University student Andre Thompson was crowned 2017 Entrepreneurial Barnet winner after he successfully pitched his Student Light idea to the competition judges in the grand final in London.

Student Light is an app and web platform designed to liberate students from the common barriers and adversity they face, particularly around mental health issues.

“It feels absolutely incredible to win the prize. I’m glad people are really seeing that mental health in universities is an issue,”- Andre Thompson, MA Creative Technology student

Meet the professions

Representatives of the major English accounting professional bodies recently attended an employability event at Middlesex University to inform students about the career paths available to them once they graduate.

The annual Meet the Professionsevent, hosted by lecturers from the Business School's Accounting and Finance Department in collaboration with the University’s employability service, gives first year students the information they need to begin the process of becoming professional accountants once they graduate.

New business school research

Humans expect generosity from others says new study from Business School.

Professor Pablo Branas Garza and Dr Ismael Rodriguez-Lara from Middlesex University’s Business School have published a new study in Scientific Reports that shows six out of ten people expect generosity from fellow citizens.

“Our research shows that humans expect other humans to behave socially, even when you would assume that self-interest should be the rule,” - Pablo Branas Garza
